TURNING INNOVATION INTO GOLD GLOBAL EXPERTS IN FOOD SAFETY AND QUALITY. TOGETHER WE BUILD AND PROTECT CONSUMER CONFIDENCE. Third Party Auditing & Certification Industry Training Laboratory Testing 20 OCTOBER 2016 Tel. 0508 00 11 22 www.asurequality.com FT191 FT175 Businesses wanting to protect their products and be inspired by Kiwi business success stories have the opportunity to learn from the best through a series of new regional events starting on November 4.  ‘Turning Innovation into Gold’ is a nationwide seminar series organised by national intellectual property specialists James & Wells to champion Kiwi innovation, and the series will see its specialist team joining with the Innovation Council and a host of New Zealand innovators to share stories on how they’ve turned innovation into sustainable commercial success. James & Wells founding partner and seminar series panelist Ceri Wells says New Zealand is an innovative country but has a “dismal record by OECD standards for successfully commercialising our innovations.  Although innovation is on the boardroom agenda like never before, there is little point if you can’t transform your inventions into sustained commercial success.” Wells says New Zealand business has to ‘up its game’ in this area.  “We’re far from our markets so the ideal product for us is one that can be sold, licensed and delivered electronically. The seminar series will be very relevant and hugely beneficial for Kiwi businesses, especially for those with an eye on the export market,” he says. With support from regional hubs including Christchurch Chamber of Commerce, Export New Zealand Bay of Plenty and Waikato Innovation Park, the series has secured 12 speakers MCed by television presenter Jon Bridges, who will all share how to maximise innovation in today’s fragmented and challenging business world, successfully commercialise innovation and build market channels. The series will kick off in Christchurch on November 4 at the Chamber of Commerce Building. Panellists will be Dr Bruce Davey (chief executive, ARANZ Medical), Amanda Wiggins (business development manager for Forest Herbs Research) and Scott Noakes (chief executive and co-Founder, Linewize). Tauranga’s event on November 15 at the ASB Bay Park Arena will hear from Jennifer Boggiss, (director and founder, Heilala Vanilla), Jason Low, (head of innovation and design, Trimax Mowing) and Karl Gradon (chief executive, New Zealand Mãnuka Group). Hamilton’s event on November 16 at the Waikato Innovation Park will include the following speakers: Rob Heebink (research and development executive, Gallagher), Andrew Smith (chief executive, Prolife Foods) and Darrel Hadley (director and co-founder, Good George Brewing). Auckland’s event on November 17 at James & Wells in Newmarket will hear from Todd Gisby (co-founder, Stretch- Sense), Kirsten Taylor (managing director, SleepDrops International) and Binu Paul (founder and managing director, SavvyKiwi). The events will also be attended by Ceri Wells (foundation partner for James & Wells) and Louise Webster (chief executive and founder, Innovation Council). More information is available at www.jaws.co.nz. The series will kick off in Christchurch on November 4 at the Chamber of Commerce Building.
