T E S T I N G MAGNETS NEW ZEALAND PROTECTING YOUR BRAND FOR 36 YEARS As modern food processing becomes more highly automated and with food production facilities becoming more complex, the risk of metal contamination escalates, with greater areas of the production line being exposed to metallic environments and surfaces. During the past few years there have been major incidents of metal contamination in food production facilities worldwide varying from metal shaving contamination of an American ice cream brand and metal powder in baby milk formula to fragments of metal being found in processed meat foods. So the questions have to be asked as to why this metal contamination is occurring and how it can be prevented. In many cases the contamination occurs from the processing machinery with items such as nuts, bolts and washers finding their way into the product line; or from coming into contact with metallic surfaces, during which the product picks up ferrous fi lings, powder or other metallic entities. It is through the use of food grade magnetic separators that this metallic contamination is detected Magnetic validation testing of an Inline Bullet Magnet 26 MARCH 2016 and removed, a fi eld of technology which Magnets New Zealand Ltd specialises in. Started in 1980, the company has been a leader in the magnets industry for the past 36 years, specialising in ferrous metal contamination detection and separation. Food industry separation magnets are made from the rare earth element neodymium. They are extremely powerful, with even small magnets capable of pull forces that can lift hundreds of times their own mass. Another reason these are used is because of neodymium’s property of having permanent magnetism throughout its lifetime, with magnetic strength only diminishing when operating at higher temperatures. However, high temperature food grade neodymium magnets are available from Magnets New Zealand with more being developed continually. Magnets New Zealand supplies a range of specialised magnetic separators to some of the world’s largest food, dairy, beverage and pharmaceutical manufacturers, protecting their products, consumer base and brands from product recalls and other negative impacts of ferrous contamination. No matter what kind of product is being manufactured, we will have a separation solution to fi t. From liquid fi lters, to small scale grids and drawers, all the way up to large capacity self-cleaning grate separators, rotary magnetic separators and deep fi eld non obtrusive chutes for production fl ows that cannot be impeded. Magnets New Zealand is always developing and manufacturing better and more effi cient ways of detecting ferrous contamination, leading to better protection throughout the production cycle. To ensure the magnetic separators are operating at their peak capability, we undertake yearly validation reports that test and inspect the units. This picks up any Rotary grid magnetic separator defects, repairs or replacements required, minimising the chance of ferrous contamination bypassing any of the units. So if you require a magnetic solution for your food/ dairy processing plants and production facilities, contact the skilled team of engineers and designers at Magnets New Zealand. We will be able to provide the best unit to meet your needs and can custom build a unit to your specifi cations. Inline liquid fi lter
