The knowledge the company has is exceptional and unrivalled. Now that we have combined that and introduced technologies that will play large roles in the future I can only see the success of the company continuing long into the future. Our customers will receive the benefits of just that.” PACIFIC SEALS: A NEW DIRECTION UNDERLINED BY INHERENT CUSTOMER FOCUS Turn the clock back a quarter of a century and there is very little resemblance to the Pacific Seals of today – albeit for an absolute customer focus and a desire to convey quality in all aspects of business. Today, the premium seal distributor and manufacturer has been dragged into the 21st century, able to innovate with the ‘new’ while retaining the essence that has been such a success. Graham Pudney, managing director, has made it his focus. “Although we continue to manufacture in-house and have the ability to make seals up to one metre, we now source worldwide, from Austria, USA, Italy, Asia, Australia, United Kingdom, Taiwan and only from the highest quality manufacturers,” explains Mr Pudney. Enter technology, in a big way. “There was a need for technology in our business and we’ve now got that in place,” says Mr Pudney, speaking of a new catalogue with fully-rendered drawings for ease of identification; bar coding of stock, simple 5-digit numbering system (old part numbers are still available); full stock control inventory system; automated Invoicing system, ordering system and delivery system via scanning before dispatch of goods. “We are in the process of developing our website as well as developing a phone-app whereby the barcode on the stock can be scanned, quantity entered and as easy as ‘completing and send’, completes the order,” he says. Enter the old, service. Technical back up – as always - is still available and “we remain the master distributor of Hallite as well as offering exceptional brands such as Hy-Max and Forma”. Mr Pudney specialises in marketing, distribution and service, bringing with him more than half a century of success in his own business ventures. “We have passed on savings by sourcing straight from the manufacturer beginning with the humble O-Ring then cable ties, dowtys, PTFE back ups, DIN seals, soon to be copper washers, DU/DX bushes, Tri-Clover seals… we will continue to increase our range of product and pass the benefits on,” says Mr Pudney. And if Pacific Seals does not have the product or cannot make it then the company will do its utmost to source it for customers. “We have been through many changes and appreciate the patience and continued support of our most loyal customers and welcome any new customers into the fold; please feel free to pick up the phone and give us a call,” he says. It’s one thing to talk the talk, but Pacific Seals also has the heritage that includes the walk. From its humble beginnings with just a small range of stock in tight premises it was the Hallite distributor deal that got the ball rolling down the right track: the only brand then readily available in New Zealand tested for between two- and five-million cycles before being put on the market and with a patented urethane call Hythane 181. From that point growth was strong with new, bigger premises in 2000, a larger fully-stocked warehouse, more staff and most importantly the ‘can-do’ attitude that now serviced the entire country. But no longer is there a need for hand-written orders on carbon copy books and the company’s innovation has been ever-apparent throughout its rich history in the form of innovative
