In the most recent EMA Employers Survey, 24% of respondents were finding it difficult to recruit trade and technicians. Therefore investment in these areas will go some way to addressing this shortage, says Kim Campbell, ceo, EMA. “We know there is a skills shortage across the board in New Zealand, and it’s an issue our members constantly raise with us. To see this particular sector being addressed is a welcome move,” says Mr Campbell. Trades such as air-conditioning and refrigeration mechanics, engineers, plasterers, glaziers, floor finishers and roof tilers are in high demand at present, due to the needs of industries such as infrastructure and construction. Te Ururoa Flavell and Steven Joyce made a joint announcement of $9.6 million for MPTT and in another announcement Minister Joyce confirmed $14.4m for apprenticeships as part of Budget 2016. www.ema.co.nz NETWORK EVENING SERIES LEP EMA Kaeser Compressors New Zealand has announced that it is the new sponsor of the Maintenance Engineering Society of New Zealand (MESNZ) Network Evening Series.
