ROBOTIC TECHNOLOGY THE NEXT STEP FOR WELDING & ENGINEERING LTD 28 June 2016 W O R K S H O P Welding & Engineering Ltd based in Christchurch is a company dedicated to all things steel and has recently commissioned a Daito CR2 Beam Plasma Coping Robot supplied by Industrial Machinery Sales and Service in Australia to utilise robotic technology to help move them toward the future. Spending some time with Welding & Engineering Ltd’s managing director, Chris Roberts, it is soon clear that he and his company are passionate about steel and construction, including their purchase and installation of the Daito CR2 Beam Plasma Coping Robot as an investment in the company’s future that will increase productivity and reduce turnarounds and downtime. “We are currently in the process of expanding our plant, processes and ultimately the company and this is the perfect fit with the size of who we are. Its automation will not only increase productivity but also help with staff relations. It’s a robot! It turns up every day. We have invested in the full monty, powered by its own generation, It’s a one stop shop, giving us the ability to be able to pick it up and set up anywhere,” Chris says. “We’ve been involved in steel fabrication and construction in Christchurch for approximately 15 year,s striving for perfection. It’s the obvious next step for us – robotic technology. We have a solid skilled senior staff team that have worked side by side for upwards of 10-15 years – our combined experience and our dynamic problem solving ability, derives from our love of steel, it’s in our veins, we’re steel orientated, we are men of steel,” Chris says. Welding & Engineering Ltd is a company that it is true to its name. “It’s all the in the name of the company,” Chris says. “It couldn’t be any clearer.” “Previously our steel process involved marking, cutting and drilling of steel manually. Prior to purchasing the Daito we’d use our band saw to cut the steel, our men would measure, mark, cut and prepare the steel from drawings provided by our detailers. Not just the time frame but the risk of human error is now mitigated. The steel is delivered to the fabricator, marked and ready to build. For them all the tricky stuff’s done,” Chris says. “Now, with the robotic technology our processes are refined, ensuring confidence to the client that we can deliver the project on time and on budget. Our company is not only about our success but to be able to share this technology with other small to medium size steel fabrication workshops throughout New Zealand. “We not only fabricate and erect structural steel, we have a separate division that specialises in the fabrication and installation of metalwork, including but not limited to stainless steel balustrades and handrails, aluminum and stainless steel folding.” Chris also points out that the Daito CR2 Beam Plasma Coping Robot ensures that Welding & Engineering Ltd can maximise their resources effectively. “In this current climate, skilled resources are few and far between. This new automation will help us ensure that it is 100 percent correct and completed on or before the time it’s required. This helps the fabricators complete their tasks with confidence. “This machine is perfect for our capacity and also will increase our growth, our productivity, our turnover. This helps us stay competitive. It is an investment in our future. We plan to be here for a long time,” Chris says. The Daito CR2 Beam Plasma Coping Robot is only part of the range carried by Industrial Machinery Sales and Service in Australia. Daito Seiki of Japan is a world leading manufacturer of CNC machine tools for the steel construction industry. Daito next generation CNC Beam Drilling, Sawing and Coping Machines host many advanced features to save time, improve accuracy and increase profitability. www.industrialmachinery.net.au
