The National Maintenance Engineering Conference is set to be held November 9-10 at the Cluadelands Event Centre in Hamilton and the programme features a host of speakers to add value to any attendees knowledge. The pre-seminar section of the conference will feature keynote address by Janne Lundgren, SKF food and beverage manager Asia Pacific and Egon Dyer, global business manager asset reliability consulting at SKF. Janne comes from the town of Gothenborg where he started his career at SKF and today he has been working for SKF for 31 Years. During this time he has worked within manufacturing, logistics, technical and the last 10 years within the food and beverage segment . Janne has worked with food safety and the development for this area for the last 10 years. He has spent time with research as well as customers to develop and improve food safety, and he has brought the knowledge of this and influenced how SKF works to deliver products and services that are aligned with the requirement from the industry.  Food safety today is a must to focus on for the producers of food, not only to protect the consumers but also to protect the brand. An accident could in the worst case kill people or make them sick and if this happens the brand will be connected to this and as such the damage to the brand and the results can be catastrophic. So on the top of the agenda and as the number one focus area food safety will be on every food company’s priority.  How does this influence a company like SKF that are a major supplier of MRO and service to the F&B industry?  What can SKF do to make improvements in the food safety areas? "SKF can actually do quite a lot to be a part of the development of food safety, first by having a process where SKF products and services are designed with food safety in 20 June 2016 mind, to have hygienic design early in the development process so we ensure that we have done what we can in order to comply to rules and regulations for the market. So SKF has done this introduction of hygienic design and are also member of hygienic design institutes for further development and improvement in the way we work with food safety" says Janne.  With the new ISO 22000 it is clearly stated that equipment producing food shall have hygienic design principles applied if they are to be used in food production. This puts a lot of pressure not only on the food producers but also on the suppliers to the food industry. "This is why it is important to be early with introduction of hygienic design and to have products that comply with the needs of the industry."  To be a successful part of the food market it is a given to have a clear focus on the food safety issues and SKF has for the last 10 years developed a process and a portfolio of products that are aimed for the food market. As such, "everthing" they do to comply with the demands from the industry and the regulation and should be a good contributor within the HACCP work that are done in the food industry at factory level.  Egon has 37 years industry experience and worked with several industries including food and beverage, oil and gas, pulp and paper, cement, chemicals, Retail and automotive. He’s been with SKF for th past decade and held several positions all related to asset management. Egon conducts assessments and benchmarked organisations to help them understand how well they are doing today and define road maps on how to achieve better results by executing and implementing the right asset management initiatives. To help organisations improve, he coordinates and supports asset management improvement projects like RCM, maintenance management system implementation, spares inventory management and optimisation, and operator driven reliability to name a few. Prior to his career in SKF he worked for eight years with MRO Software, the company that developed and implemented the Maximo maintenance management system. His message will be how to maximise overall equipment efficiency (OEE) and reducing total cost of ownership (TCO).  In a half day session just prior to the conference starting proper, Egon will explain the importance of asset management for your organisation. This training is targeted for maintenance managers, engineering managers, production managers and plant managers.  You will learn that asset management is not just a maintenance department issue or initiative but actually covers your whole organisation. Edon will get you focused to develop the right strategy for your business. http://tinyurl.com/hj3ftfy S H O W T I M E ASSET MANAGEMENT A KEY FOR NMEC SPEAKERS Janne Lundgren of SKF
