LATEST MAPLESIM RELEASE STREAMLINES USER EXPERIENCE MapleSim 2016 expands modeling scope with contact modeling, pneumatics 58 May 2016 D E S I G N Maplesoft has announced a major new release of MapleSim, an advanced system-level modeling and simulation platform, together with important updates to many of the specialised component libraries and connectivity tools in the MapleSim family of products.  MapleSim offers a modern approach to physical modeling and simulation, dramatically reducing model development and analysis time while producing fast, high-fidelity simulations Additions include interface changes to improve workflow, new and expanded component libraries, and extensions to toolchain connectivity. MapleSim 2016 provides numerous enhancements to provide a smooth, more streamlined user experience. These improvements include task panels that appear automatically as needed and then disappear again to maximise model workspace, redesigned layout that ensures tools are readily available at the moment they are needed, and a new search bar that provides a single point of access for searching help pages, component libraries, examples, attachments, templates, and models from the MapleSim model gallery. MapleSim 2016 also includes an expanded multibody component library to support contact modeling, which covers a variety of surface shapes and enables engineers to quickly model contact between different objects in their model. In addition, it comes with a collection of built-in apps that provide pointand click access to powerful Maple-based analysis and utility tools from within the MapleSim environment. Using these apps, engineers can perform parameter sweeps, Monte Carlo simulations, code generation, and more without any knowledge of Maple. “MapleSim enables a model driven innovation process that allows our customers to achieve valuable design insight in addition to high-fidelity simulations,” says Dr Laurent Bernardin, executive vice president and chief scientist at Maplesoft. “Whether they choose to work with the Maplesoft Engineering Solutions team or on their own, the enhancements in MapleSim 2016 allow engineers to solve tough engineering problems in less time, with high quality results.” Improvements were also made to other members of the MapleSim family of modeling and simulation products. All MapleSim add-ons and connector products have been updated to take advantage of the computational power of the recently announced Maple 2016. In addition, the MapleSim CAD Toolbox has been extended to work with the latest versions of major CAD tools, and the MapleSim Connector now supports single-precision export of Simulink S-functions. As part of this release, Maplesoft has also introduced a new product, the MapleSim pneumatics library from Modelon, which allows engineers to take advantage of the powerful, industry-tested component library from Modelon in their system-level designs. This library can be used in the modeling and simulation of pneumatic systems for system design, component sizing, and control design, with applications in construction equipment, machine design, commercial vehicle design, and more.
