The company says it is policy to offer the ‘best long term solution’ for best practise, so Geoff and his sales team visit companies and quote everything needed to make improvements to a site, but often changes can be introduced in stages to spread costs, especially useful for smaller operators. With its own installation team, it is easy for NZ Duct+Flex to work on a project over a period of time as the same installers are visiting the site, and they have at their disposal a warehouse full of modular LipLock ducting along with everything else needed for fume and dust extraction. Geoff says: “Often we visit sites where the fans are too small to be effective, or someone has tried to deal with fumes by ventilating the entire room with an ordinary domestic fan that merely disperses the fumes, This is not the best approach as it is important to remove the fumes at the point they are made, and not drag them past the operator then on to other areas in the workplace.” Fume arms work really well, need negligible maintenance and if they are robust and well designed, welders find it easy to actually use them properly. ”One of the key issues with installation is that welders do not position the hoods correctly. Manufactured out of aluminium, hoods on our arms from our European supplier can withstand the working temperatures and therefore be positioned close to the source of the fumes, with no risk of melting. The easy to grab all round handle also means the hood can be repositioned as the welder carries on.” Duct+Flex fume arms with external hinging and articulation last longer because moving parts are on the outside and contribute to a beneficial smoother airflow minimising eddies. The arms swing 180 degrees allowing ease of use for several operators or large items. The fume arms stocked are 75mm-160mm with a range of 1-4 metre reach – fume booms and extensions are also available for larger workshop areas. The very popular mobile Fume Cube (one arm and two arm) and DustKart (with built in compressed air cleaning) will also be on display and operational at EMEX.
